Throughout June, we celebrate Pride Month to honour the historic Stonewall uprising of 1969 in Manhattan. It all began in the early hours of June 28th when the Stonewall Inn, a beloved gay club in New York City, was raided by police. This event sparked a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQIA2S+ rights and paved the way for the progress we continue to make today.
But Pride isn't just about the Stonewall Riots—it's a time to reflect on Canada's own rich history and turning points in the struggle for and eventual celebration of LGBT rights.
At Thrive, we're thrilled to announce that members of our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, along with fellow Thrivers, friends, and family, will proudly walk in the upcoming Victoria Pride Parade on Sunday, July 9th, 2023. It's a moment to stand together, show our support, and embrace diversity.
For those of you in Victoria and surrounding areas, visit the Victoria Pride Society website for exciting events happening throughout June. There's an abundance of activities and gatherings leading up to the Victoria Pride Festival, from June 29th to July 9th. Be sure to mark your calendars and join in the celebration!
Let's make this Pride Month a time of love, acceptance, and unity. Together, we can create a world where everyone feels valued and celebrated for who they are.
Thanks to Justine and Thrive’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee for helping us with this and the Pride Parade!
