Out-of-Care

The Out of Care Support Program serves non-parental caregivers who need help to ensure a safe living environment for the children in their care.

This Program offers outreach services, serving people in their homes and communities, and has been designed to develop and maintain the resourcefulness and resiliency of individuals and families.

Services provided:

  • Develop and maintain parenting skills regarding caregiver/child interactions, stages of child development, guidance, and effective behaviour management techniques
  • Provide opportunities to enhance parenting skills through education, mentoring, modelling, and training
  • Explore issues that may impact children in their care, such as family violence, substance abuse, and mental health concern
  • Assist with effectively navigating family relationships in the context of caring for children in the care of Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) due to child protection concerns
  • Provide support to maintain the placement of the child

How do you get into this program?

Referrals are received from Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Resource Social Workers within the Greater Victoria Region.

Need some guidance?

Our Thrive team acknowledges that our agency stands and works on the unceded Lək̓ʷəŋən territory of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. We also acknowledge the five W̱SÁNEĆ communities: W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip), BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin), SȾÁUTW̱,(Tsawout) W̱SIKEM (Tseycum) and MÁLEXEȽ (Malahat), as well as the Sc'ianew (Beecher Bay), T’Sou-ke, and Pacheedaht Nations and the Spune’laxutth’ (Penelekut) tribe where our work extends. We are committed to acknowledging our relationship with these unceded lands and communities, at staff and Board meetings, and during our hosted events. We encourage the evolving learning and awareness of our staff, Board, and the Thrive community, discovering and striving for meaning and personal connection within each acknowledgement.
